Review: The Other Guys (2010)

The Other Guys is a comedy-action film in style of a Buddy-Cop picture. The Film stars Will Ferrell (Step Brothers) & Mark Wahlberg (The Departed), and featuring Dwayne Johnson, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Keaton, Eva Mendes, Steve Coogan and Ray Stevenson. The film was directed by Adam McKay who also did Anchorman (2004), Talladega Nights (2006) and Step Brothers (2008) which all starred Will Ferrell.

The film starts as you follow the two “Hero” cops in Det. Danson (Dwayne Johnson) and Det. PK Highsmith (Samuel L. Jackson) grab the headlines and glory for causing havoc on the streets for solving minor crimes as well some big ones. This carries on until they bother jump of a 20 story building chasing after criminals believing they can survive and make it. This prompts many of the Cops in the in station to rise up and become the next force, to be become “The Other Guys”. This is where Det. Allen Gamble (Will Ferrell) & Det. Terry Hoitz (Mark Wahlberg) come as miss-matched partners with clashing personalities, a classic combination in any Buddy-Cop film. They eventually stumble onto there own case which they try and solve whilst causing there own chaos like driving over crime scenes in Det. Gamble’s Prius.

I’ll be honest that before the film was apprehensive about seeing because i have been disappointed by Will Ferrell since Anchorman but i can honestly say he is back to form and having Mark Wahlberg to partner alongside him work really well. As much as i hate to admit it as well it was better than Cop Out (2010), and you talking about a HUGE Kevin Smith fan here.

I really recommend the film and its makes a great Popcorn film for either a group of mates on a Friday night or with a partner, great fun for most and you will laugh. I’d give the film 4/5.
