Great Scott! It’s that time of year again. My Top 10 Films of 2011

Right! So here we go, My Top 10 Films of 2011!

It’s been a damn good year and 2012 is looking very promising. These are the films I’ve enjoyed the most over the year. I could of made several Top 10’s with the leftovers as well, this was extremely hard to sort out. My only rule for the list is that I had to of seen the film in 2011 and in a cinema.

There not in rank order but i’m going chronologically in release date.

1. THE FIGHTER

Director: DAVID O. RUSSELL

Rotten Tomato Rating: 91%

I really enjoyed the film and thought it was brilliant. Even though I’m not a boxing fan I didn’t find it boring. The acting is great with Bale and Adams simply showing us there acting chops – fully deserving of any award nominations that come there way. Also, any film that uses a Red Hot Chili Pepper song in it gets extra credit from me as well from an already incredible film.

2. GRIFF THE INVISIBLE

Director: LEON FORD

Starring: RYAN KWANTEN / MAEVE DERMODY / TOBY SCHMITZ / HEATHER MITCHELL

Rotten Tomato Rating: 61%

Leon Ford has done a great film here. It’s shot well and the story is great. It’s less Kick-Ass though as some publications are calling it. It’s more of a fantasy love story but packed full of imagination. The film is nearly perfect with right amount of realism and fantasy, and with a story that simply delightful, funny, warming and touching.

One of the best things I’ve seen in the cinema all year. It documents Senna’s years on the F1 track up until his tragic death. We are given an insight into the man, the legend and often the maverick. Stunning film making.

J.J. Abrams is well on course of being the new Spielberg and Super 8 basically confirms it. It feels like a love letter back to those classic big family films like The Goonies and E.T. Super 8 is very charming and boasts an excellent cast of child actors.

Rotten Tomato Rating: 94%

FILM TRAILER HERE

Have to say that I really loved 50/50, well a little bit more than that honestly. It’s a film that will make you laugh and then sucker punch you in the chest with brutal realities, then in the same action pick you back up and give you a warm hug whilst telling a dirty joke in your ear. It was very heartfelt. 50/50 is one of the must see films of year.

10. HUGO 3D

Director: MARTIN SCORSESE

Overall I found HUGO to be a immensely enjoyable and satisfying watch. It’s a very special film in its own right and deserves your attention. It might be rated ‘U’ but I think if your under the age of ten you might struggle. It’s great family film but no so much a kids one. I highly recommend this for the Christmas holidays.
